A Blue Plaque will be unveiled at the site of Barbara Pym's birth, 72 Willow Street in Oswestry, Shropshire, on Wednesday 14th March 2012, as part of the Oswestry Literary Festival. BPS member and former chairman Kate Charles will perform the ceremony at Willowgate (junction of Willow Street and Castle Street) at 12.30 p.m. There will then be an opportunity for lunch before Kate gives a talk on ‘Barbara Pym and the Clergy’ at the Willow Gallery, at 2.30 p.m.
The process of getting the plaque authorized, funded, and installed was organized by Oswestry resident Lawrence Garner, author of Oswestry Girl: Barbara Pym 1913-1980, a booklet about Barbara Pym written in 2005 and reprinted in 2010. He spoke at the BPS Spring Meeting at Oswestry in 2009.
